프랑스 작가의 책을 영어로 번역한 Will You Be there?

Guillaume Musso

Born in 1974 in Antibes, Guillaume Musso first fell in love with literature at the age of ten, spending most of his summer holed up in the local library, run by his mother.

He began to write as a student. At the age of 19, fascinated by the United States, he moved to New York, as well as New Jersey, for a few months, where he worked as an ice cream vendor, and lived with other workers from many different cultural backgrounds. He admits to having learned a great deal during this period. After that, he returned to France, full of ideas for novels.

He holds an undergraduate degree in Economics, and holds a CAPES teaching certificate in Economics.

With over 19 million copies sold throughout the world, the universal themes addressed in Guillaume Musso’s novels have touched readers in many countries. In 2013, for the third consecutive year, he is the #1 bestselling French novelist in France (source: GFK) and his books have been translated into 36 languages.

Outside of Europe, Guillaume Musso has met with extraordinary success in Korea, where sales of his books total over one million copies. A Mix-up in Heaven(구해줘, Sauve-moi) was number 1 for 28 weeks straight and all of his novels remained at the top of the lists for several months.

Butterfly Effect

[p.144]

Except that you can’t change the past with impunity. That must he was sure of. Until now he’d managed to limit the damage by behaving as a mere spectator from the future, but if he started trying to interfere in the events of his past life, things could become complicated. Everybody knew about the butterfly effect in chaos theory: through a series of chain reactions, an insignificant event could bring about a large-scale catastrophe; the flapping of a butterfly’s wings in Japan could cause a hurricane in Florida.

Q. Will it be ethically to apply the Butterfly Effect Theory to human behavior problems?

Fate

[p.158]

‘Because if we save Ilena, you`ll live your life with her.’

‘So?’

‘So, then you’ll never have Angie…’

Elliott wasn’t sure he understood. ‘Where’s the problem?’ he asked, shrugging his shoulders, ‘I’ll have other children…’

‘Other children? But I don`t give a damn about your other children. I don`t want to lose my daughter! I don’t want a world where Angie doesn’t exist!’

‘And I won’t let Ilena die,’ Elliott answered with determination.

Q. If you were Elliott and were able to save only one person, who would you save? Ilena or Angie?

Q. How would you react if you were in the same situation to persuade your double?

Q. Everybody is saved at the ending. Do you think they could live together happily ever after?

[p.162]

Everything that must happen will happen, whatever your efforts to avoid it. Everything that must not happen will not happen, Whatever your efforts to bring it about.

-      Ramana Maharshi

I have noticed that even people who assert that everything is predestinated and that we can change nothing about it look both ways before they cross the street.

-      Stephen Hawking

Q. Do you believe in fate? Do you believe in God?

è When you believe in god, do you trust that god does for the goodness of all mankind?

Q. Do you think that you are in control of your own fate or no man can avoid his fate?

Q. Do you think that you are still master of the way you face it, even if you can’t escape you destiny? [p.221]

&&&&

Q. Do you have someone to come to save you from danger?

Plagiarism

Legal aspects

Although plagiarism in some contexts is considered theft or stealing, the concept does not exist in a legal sense. "Plagiarism" is not mentioned in any current statute, either criminal or civil. Some cases may be treated as unfair competition or a violation of the doctrine of moral rights. The increased availability of intellectual property due to a rise in technology has furthered the debate as to whether copyright offences are criminal. In short, people are asked to use the guideline, "...if you did not write it yourself, you must give credit."

Plagiarism is also considered a moral offense against anyone who has provided the plagiarist with a benefit in exchange for what is specifically supposed to be original content (for example, the plagiarist's publisher, employer, or teacher). In such cases, acts of plagiarism may sometimes also form part of a claim for breach of the plagiarist's contract, or, if done knowingly, for a civil wrong.

plagiarism is defined differently among institutions of higher learning and universities:

ü  Stanford sees plagiarism as the "use, without giving reasonable and appropriate credit to or acknowledging the author or source, of another person's original work, whether such work is made up of code, formulas, ideas, language, research, strategies, writing or other form."

ü  Oxford College of Emory University characterizes plagiarism as the use of "a writer's ideas or phraseology without giving due credit."

ü  Brown defines plagiarism as "... appropriating another person's ideas or words (spoken or written) without attributing those word or ideas to their true source."
